Instinct.

Jude 10 (ESV): But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively

How can a people who are by their very nature sinful and against God in every way – trust their instincts? I hear time and time again from secular and religious people to “trust your heart” or “follow your gut”. Disney built an empire, and shaped a generation around these very premises! But these things shouldn’t be trusted or followed!

When we follow our own instincts, desires and understandings we are led to blasphemy and destruction!!! Take heed my spirit!

Only one is worth following, Christ who lived a sinless life to die a sinners death, to defeat satan and his legion of “unreason”, to give us the spirit and true wisdom of God, and by it now we know what is good and evil! And we know not like satan tempted Eve, by taking advantage of her instinctual wandering and selfish satisfaction, but by the grace and mercy of God the father who gifts us his spirit so that we may become more like him in Christ – and to live a life of flourishing until we are joined in his radiant presence in everlasting life!

Praise be to God! Lord, thank you for the gifts of your wisdom, which you instruct us in, to keep us from blasphemy and destruction. Lord teach our hearts and give temperance to our flesh, show us how, in these days, we still follow old ways. Amen.

Whats the call to action then? Again, as humility is the enemy of pride, let us all humbly submit to Godly leaders and those willing to disciple us, encourage us and hold us accountable. Trust not your heart, but the Lord with all of your heart. Let Him consume you. Pursue his passions and desires, and if yours are against His, take warning! Seek the Lord in prayer and ask Him to transform you, and draw you near to Christ. Lean on scripture, not your understanding. Maintain congruence of scripture and if your interpretation of scripture goes against Gods character or revelation, take warning! He will never contradict himself!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”

Proverbs 3:5

Peace be with you.
