Jude 14 (ESV): It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones…
In scripture there is only two accounts of humans escaping death, Enoch and Elijah. Since Jude brings up Enoch, it is good to review who he is.
In Genesis 5:22-24, we read:
“After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
He walked faithfully with God for over 300 years!
I often think I am doing “good” if I am faithful for day or two. Maybe I have a good week, or a “season of victory”. Then maybe I would pat my own back! But 300 years!
Yet again, here is man so faithful, God “took him away”. Even so, we don’t get a historical narrative on what he did, or a testimonial about all the accomplishments he had.
I think this is good. If we had Enoch’s resume of faith we may be tempted to elevate him or falsely glorify his works. The truth is, as a sinful fallen man, he wasn’t truly perfect.
Elijah the prophet was also “taken”.
You might remember his victory against pagan Gods and the prophets of Baal when he called down fire from heaven! He is regarded as one of Gods mightiest prophets.
Enoch was a prophet too, and as Jude records, he prophesied the judgement of the ungodly.
Both men confronted the enemies of God by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We won’t live more than 100, and we should pray our lives will be made up of more faithful moments than not. We probably won’t call down fire from heaven to burn up evil idols
But we can confront the enemies of God by the power of the Holy Spirit, and we should.
In verse 15 we will look into a few specifics on judgement according to scripture in the end days of our seen realm, but we must not forget there is always the unseen realm, and a spiritual war is ever present.
I recommend this video on spiritual warfare.
Peace be with you.
