Never Surrender.

To them we did not yield in submission even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.” – Galatians 2:5

When Paul wrote to the churches in Galatia, he wasn’t just addressing a group of scattered congregations—he was rallying a people with a deep heritage. The Galatians were descended from the ancient Gauls—Celtic warrior tribes known for their ferocity, resilience, and military prowess. Even after being absorbed into the Roman world, the cultural memory of those tribal roots remained.

Paul knew his audience.

And he spoke to them in terms they’d understand.

“We did not yield… not even for a moment.”

This is the language of war. Of resolve. Of refusing to retreat in the face of pressure.

Because Paul saw what was at stake: the truth of the gospel.

Not a social club.

Not a shared tradition.

Not a religious comfort blanket.

But the very power of God unto salvation—and it was under attack.

False teachers had infiltrated the ranks, aiming to distort grace and pull believers back into law. And Paul, like a seasoned general, stood his ground. He knew this wasn’t a theoretical disagreement—it was a spiritual war. And his refusal to yield wasn’t stubbornness. It was strategic, protective, and pastoral.

He stood firm, for them.

“…so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.”

He fought for their freedom before they even realized it was in danger.

He dug in so they could stand up.

He endured pressure so their faith could flourish.

And this is our charge too.

As leaders, parents, pastors, disciplers, mentors—we must never forget that the gospel is worth the fight. Not with fists or force, but with clarity, conviction, and an unshakable resolve to hold the line of truth in a culture that constantly shifts the standard.

Those we lead will either inherit our compromise or our courage.

If we compromise the gospel for comfort, or relevance, or peacekeeping, they’ll learn to do the same.

But if we contend for it—if we show with our lives and words that it’s worth everything—then we’ll raise up a generation of warriors who don’t shrink back.

Never surrender.

Not to legalism.

Not to watered-down grace.

Not to empty traditions.

Not to spiritual apathy.

The church needs leaders who are mission-focused like Paul—willing to contend for the truth not out of pride, but out of love. Because preserving the gospel isn’t just about us—it’s about those we’re called to serve and strengthen.

So plant it deep.

Live it loud.

Pass it on.

And never surrender
